Yamatokoriyama was part of the fiefdom of the Yanagisawa Clan
from its early beginning in 1724 to 1868.
The current city emblem was taken from the flowery rhombus
of the Yanagisawa crest.

The city's symbol mark is a happy goldfish, symbolic of the goldfish
farming business that has been a traditional element of local industry
for more almost two centuries.
To commemorate the city's 20th year as a municipality, the city's
emblem and symbol mark were officially named and approved on
September 7, 1974, by the city council.

Second Official Tree is Weeping Willow Both of the official trees and
flowers were selected in a contest from amongst entries submitted by residents
in November 1969.
