Sister City

Sister City: Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture

It was in the year 1724 when the Yanagisawa clan migrated from Kofu to Yamatokoriyama, and after that they ruled over the area during the Edo period for 150 years, until the Meiji Restoration.

Interchange between Koriyama and Kofu City therefore has continued for almost 270 years. One of the tokens of their relationship is the goldfish, introduced by the Yanagisawas.
In 1992, Yamatokoriyama City concluded the "sister city" recognition with Kofu City.
Currently, festivals and events are held in both cities to further deepen the exchange.
