Goldfish Species
All the goldfish are said to descend from Chinese species, and those which were later bred from them are known as the Japanese varieties. Today, there are approximately 30 or more species in Japan which will amount to even more types if subdivided by details. We are also told that more than 100 species exist in China.
Various unique species have been produced by selective cross-breeding over the centuries. By explaining the history and origin of goldfish in Japan, we can learn the history of current species as they developed and differed from the traditional ones.
