Garbage Collected by the City Government
The City Government collects household garbage. Generally, the collection days vary according to each Residential Association ("jichikai"). Cleaning and maintenance of the collection spot is under the Residential Association's management. For newcomers, please ask your Residential Association about the disposal place and others.
Disposal of Household Garbage
Garbage should be put out at the collection spot by 7:30 a.m. on the designated collection day. Refer to the list below for garbage separation. Please note that garbage that is not disposed of according to the rules above cannot be collected.
*If the combustible garbage collecting day falls on national holidays, there is no collection. Please wait for the next combustible garbage collection day.

Collected twice a week
Monday/ Thursday or Tuesday/ Friday
Includes kitchen scraps, wastepaper, small plastic containers, leather items, and small burnable garbage such as small plastic items.
Collection days vary depending on the Residential Association. Please confirm at your Residential Association.
Incombustible
Collected once a month
Includes cans and bottles, ceramic items, and unburnable garbage such as small metal items.
*Refer to "Incombustible Garbage Collection Schedule" (distributed to each household) for the collection day.
Bulky (over-sized) garbage
Collected 3 times a year
Includes furniture, household electric appliances (TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators/ freezers, cloth dryers, personal computers are not included), bicycles, futon, umbrellas etc.
*Collection schedule is distributed to each representative of the residential association. Each household will be informed by circular bulletins etc.
Hazardous garbage
Collected 3 times a year
Includes dry cell batteries, fluorescent lights, thermometers, mirrors etc.
*Collected 3 times a year on the "Bulky Garbage Collection Day."
Plastic bottles
Collected once a month
Includes plastic bottles for beverages (juice, tea etc.) and others such as soy sauce.
Remove caps and labels from the plastic bottles and rinse the inside before disposal.
*Collection day depends on the following alternatives for the "Combustible Garbage Collection Day."
Monday/ Thursday: Every second Wednesday
Tuesday/ Friday: Every fourth Wednesday
Recyclable garbage
Resource Collection Group
Includes corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines, clothes, and milk cartons.
*Please follow the directions of your Residential Association or Children's Association ("kodomo-kai") on the date of disposal.
Do not dispose on other garbage collection days.
*In areas where there are no Resource Collection Groups, these are collected once a month.
(Application is required through your Residential Association).
Incombustible/ Hazardous garbage
Incombustible/ Hazardous Garbage must be put in city-designated bags (distributed to each household once a year).
*Combustible garbage and plastic bottles should be placed in a transparent or semi-transparent bag before disposal.
*Bulky garbage should be separated to "wooden furniture," "metal furniture," "bicycles or motorcycles below 500cc," "household electric appliances," "burnable items such as futons," and "hazardous garbage."
Large Quantity Household Garbage
The following should be separated according to type before being taken to the Sanitation Center.
(Some items cannot be accepted. Please contact Sanitation Center in advance.)
- Household garbage as a result of moving etc. which can be handled by the Center.
- Grass clippings and branches (Cut into 50m~1m-length, then tied-up in bundles.)
Materials made by gardeners or any other companies are to be disposed of as their responsibility. - Commercial Garbage: General commercial waste that can be processed at the Center.
Hours: Monday to Friday: 11:00 a.m. to Noon, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
*Please follow the staff member's instructions. Hazardous garbage and unhandled items cannot be accepted.

Personal Computers
Since October 1st 2003, under the Law for the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources, household personal computers are collected and recycled by the manufacturers. Therefore, the city cannot accept used personal computers. Please contact the manufacturer when you are going to discard your personal computer.
*For computers that do not have a specific manufacturer, such as homemade personal computers, call the PC 3R Promotion Center (03-5282-7685).
Commercial/ Industrial Waste
Under the law, you must make your own arrangements for disposal of waste from trade, businesses, hospitals etc. You are required to call the industrial waste processing company to collect your waste. There is a charge for disposing of commercial waste. For recyclable garbage (cans, metal items, bottles, glass items, waste paper, cloths etc.), please contact the resource recycling company.
Illegal Disposal
Illegal disposal is against the law. Any improper disposal may cause harm to our everyday lives due to effluvium, marring the scenery, and the danger of collapse. You are responsible for your disposal and are not allowed to violate the law for personal reasons. Please report to the police when you catch sight of illegal disposal.

"Nikoyaka" Collection
The city is offering a door-to-door service for residents who are elderly or disabled or physically unable to move.
Target: Those who fit the following conditions.
(Households that can receive assistance from relatives or neighbors are not eligible).
- Those who are over 65 years old, or who are eligible for nursing-care (Yokaigo stage 2) according to the Long-Term Care Insurance system, or who require everyday care.
- Those who are physically or intellectually disabled, (including those with incurable diseases), the mentally challenged and those eligible for nursing-care according to the "Self-Reliant Support Law."
